17 different players attended the Flint Scrabble Club in 2009. Our average attendance was 6 players. 624 games were played and there were no ties. Five different players earned Player of the Month title. Steve Grob led with 5 POM awards, I was POM 4 times, and Carolyn Easter, Elaine Glowniak, and Jeff Fiszbein had 1 POM each. My 23-4 finish in December was enough to edge me past Steve Grob for POY. Jeff Fiszbein had a higher win percentage than me but he did not qualify for POY based on attendance (min 6 sessions in the year). Composite results will follow in another post due to character limitations.

I botched 2 endgames that kept me from going 7-0 tonight and virtually wrapping up POY. Steve Grob went 3-1 tonight to narrow the gap with 2 weeks to go.

There will be a holiday scrabble party at my house on Tuesday December 29th from 10AM-4PM. RSVP so I can plan accordingly. The party will be followed by club at the usual location.
Steve Grob triple-tripled through an L with CANFIELD natural for 185. He was planning to play FANCIED for 100+ before the 3x3 opened up.
Botched endgame #1 - vs Grob. I am ahead by 62 points with 1 tile in the bag on a closed board. Grob extends ROQUE to the triple with ROQUETING for 60 points. I am unsure of it. I'm still ahead by 2. I have plenty of time. If had taken the time to analyze the endgame I would have not challenged and won the game. I was lazy. I challenged. Steve won. I think he will post the analysis.

Seven players showed up at my house for an inpromptu session.  Jeff Fiszbein made his debut at the Flint Scrabble club today. He now holds 4 club records for 2009:

Steve Grob continued his winning to take October POM honors with a 12-0 record.  He also passed me for POY lead.  He had his season high series of 1422 tonight.

Things have been neck and neck between me and Steve Grob.  I overtook him for player the month in August and now lead for player of the year on the strength of my current 11 game win streak.  Attendance is still on the rise.
